Skill Expectations
Peers must be COMPLETELY TOILET TRAINED before the child attends preschool.
- Plays cooperatively with peers
- Takes turns with minimal assistance
- Speaks in clear English sentences and is able answer and comprehend questions in English.
- Participates in an activity when invited by a peer or an adult
- Verbally interacts with peers in play situations
- Speech is clear and understandable by unfamiliar adults
- Can follow simple directions and some multiple step directions
- Responds to simple questions
- Can work in small group for at least 10 minutes
- Use toys and classroom materials appropriately
- Listens attentively to a story and can make comments or answer age appropriate questions about a story
- Separates easily from parent
- Helps with simple task when asked, such as cleaning up
- Follows safety rules when reminded
- Eats and drinks independently
- Removes small articles of clothing
- Dresses self except shoes
- Can button and zip clothing
- Uses bathroom independently
- Occupies self with toys for 10 or more minutes
- Attends to small-group activity for 10 or more minutes
- Shows understanding of age appropriate vocabulary
- Can follow simple commands
- Can follow 2-3 step directions
- Shows understanding of how things work by turning things on/off, activating a variety of toys, or directing adults to do so
- Sorts toys or objects
- Counts to 10 and names three to five colors
- Independently picks up small toys
- Uses toys and objects appropriately (e.g., pushes truck, rocks baby, uses brush to brush hair)
- Uses imagination to play (e.g., pretends to cook dinner, pretends to be Mommy going to work, dresses like Daddy)
- Will share toys and cooperate in play
- Takes turns in simple games (Duck, Duck, Goose, The Farmer in the Dell)
